Expired Domain Names

Would you like to capitalize on the hard work of others? Then consider buying expired domain names. Everyday there are thousands of expired domain names re-entering the marketplace for one reason or another and becoming available to the public after completion of the domain name drop cycle . The best part is some of these names will have existing traffic and backlinks!

The prices on these names vary from the basic new registration fee up to several thousand dollars depending on the quality of the traffic. For now let’s look at the lower end.

How to Use Expired Domain Names

Imagine someone has worked on a niche website for several months optimizing in search engines, directories and acquiring backlinks from solid sites. All this work has netted him 10 unique visitors a day. After months of hard work and only 10 uniques a day he says the hell with it and closes down the website letting the name expire. This happens everyday!

After the name goes through the domain name expiration process it will become available to the public again. Now for the good news, in most cases the search engine and directory status remains along with the backlinks. This means who ever buys this name will be getting the same 10 unique visitors a day from day one.

Doesn’t sound like much does it? What if you were able to buy it at the basic new registration cost of around $8.00? Sounding better? A name right out of the chute with 10 unique visitors a day for the same price as a name with no traffic. You do the math.

To generate that same traffic with Google AdWords or other PPC publishers it would cost a minimum of $30.00 monthly. 10 clicks per day x 30 days = 300 monthly clicks @ .10 per click = $30.00. Remember that’s at only 10 cents per click. This ads value to that name, doesn’t it? You would probably be willing to pay more than $8.00 right?

Now obviously you don’t want to run around buying a bunch of names just because they have a little bit of traffic associated with it. There must be a method to your madness.

In order to maintain the existing traffic, the new site must be related in some way to the old site. If the old site was about cars and the new site is about jewelry, you are going to loose the traffic. Only buy expired domain names that fit your niche or a niche that you are willing to develop.

Remember the name has already been submitted into the popular search engines and directories and has aged a little bit. Your job is to leverage that and the existing traffic into a profitable content themed website.

Now take it to the next step and buy several more names on the expired domain list in the same niche, with the same traffic and price. Say you buy 9 more names with 10 unique visitors a day and direct all of the traffic to your main website. That brings your total unique visitors up to 100 per day! All that for the basic cost of annual registration.

Do you see how it is possible to leverage existing traffic from expired domain names into a highly profitable content themed website?

In reality you will probably pay more than $8 for expired names. I used this as an example to make the point: there is potential in expired domain list. You will have to determine yourself what to pay for names with existing traffic, backlinks and search engine placement. Remember it’s all about the traffic!
